Where do we welcome the New Year 2016 in Central Portugal?
The winter season is already here – we are all buying presents and preparing to gather around the Christmas tree. But just as the joy of Christmas has passed, before letting melancholy set in, we already prepare for another celebration – the night between the years. Where do we welcome the New Year 2016 in Central Portugal? Here are a few ideas:
Lisbon city, the capital of Portugal, is the most obvious choice if you want light and fun and entertainment. Apart from the private parties hosted by the hotels and restaurants in town, there are a few public parties organized by the City Council, as well as a huge fireworks show. Praca do Comercio hosts the biggest party in town, but Parque das Nacoes is in no way inferior. The great Sao Jorge Castle opens its gates at midnight and this high point offers a splendid view over the entire Lisbon. The Tower of Belem is another legendary place to spend the night between years.
A beautiful resort by the sea, Nazare is one of the best places to spend Christmas. The party starts on December 30th and ends… well, technically the next year (on January 1st). On New Year’s Eve, the fun never seems to stop, there are stages set up everywhere. There is music everywhere and outstanding fireworks displays on the beaches that line the coast of the town.
Coimbra might be a universitary town, determined by culture and art, throughout the year, but they also know how to party when context allows it! Let’s just say they work hard and party harder. There are fireworks and street performances scheduled for New Year’s Eve and between the 28th and the 31st of December, Centro Norton de Matos hosts music and dancing workshops and various concerts for everyone to enjoy.
Needless to say, if you are having trouble with the crowds and the traffic, you can book a Lisbon airport transfer to take you anywhere you like!
